El Loco is another excellent creation by the Merivale empire. It’s a bistro-style Mexican place connected to a pub. Since it was only about 5 minutes walk from Central station Mr C and I decided to check it out when he kept insisting on how good it would be. We’re definitely coming back now that I’m addicted to Tacos 🙂
The hot dog was smothered in cheese and included jalapenos with tomato sauce, it is probably one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever eaten in my life. The jalapenos weren’t too spicy and the cheese melts as you take each bite, overall the hot dog is big enough and quite filling for one person.
Since it’s a bistro style restaurant (or cantina) you order at the bar and they give you a table number in the form of MASSIVE cactus. So awesome I had to take a photo! 🙂
Lemongrass Beef, Salsa Verde, Queso
The tacos available at El Loco are all soft-shelled and packed with fillings, it actually makes it kind of difficult to eat and hold without messing up the table but it’s so worth it. The first taco we had was Lemongrass beef, apparently it was inspired by Asian cuisine. I love it, the taco had so much flavor and of course had my favorite cheese.
Chicken, Sweet Corn Salsa
Our second taco was chicken, I normally don’t like corn much but I till ended up loving this one as well. The chicken and salsa went really well together and I almost forgot it even had corn in it! What made it even better was covering the taco in chilli sauce.
I made a big mistake by filling my chicken taco with TOO much chilli sauce at one point. I didn’t expect it to be so spicy 🙁 Once you get used to the chilli it definitely does make the taco way more delicious 😀
Overall this was one of our cheapest and best value lunch meals ever at only $19 between the two of us. We are definitely going to come back to El Loco just try the corn chips with guacamole and other taco varieties!
