Mexico Food and Liquor, Surry Hills

I’d been hearing a lot of news that District Dining had been shut down and transformed into Mexico Food and Liquor, there were plenty of good reviews going around so I decided to visit during a work lunch when Miss K was visiting. They have a very extensive menu and a new revamped interior with a lot of Mexican themed decor. Since it was the middle of the day we didn’t end up with any alcohol but the list was definitely long and enticing.

Out first dish to arrive was the Quesadilla with roast eggplant, green onion & walnut and sour cream. The first thing I noticed was that they used the same kitchenware as District Dining, though that’s me being an old fan ๐Ÿ™‚ Having not had a Quesadilla in a long time I was pleasantly surprised that this one was absolutely delicious with the very tasty sour cream.

Pan fried fish taco with capers and candied olive

Although we’ve been to El Loco at least three times now, we never ended up trying to fish or prawn tacos because we usually had other stuff to keep us occupied. So when I saw the unique tacos on the menu I immediately decided to take the plunge and order the fish taco, which happens to be my favorite ๐Ÿ™‚

Rubbed pork taco with black beans, red cabbage, guajillo, sesame

It was a hard decision for our second taco, I wasn’t sure if I wanted beef or pork but the pork looked great from some reviews I had seen earlier. I ended up going with this one and found it to be a great choice. Pork lovers will enjoy this one as the meat wasn’t overpowered by other ingredients ๐Ÿ™‚

Wild mushroom taco with fennel & marjoram, sour cream, toasted pinenuts

When I saw that they were doing mushroom tacos I had to order it, Miss K would never forgive me for not giving this one a go. Glad to say that although there was no meat the taco was delicious and full of flavours. Next time we visit I might just order more than one of these!

I’m kind of sad that District Dining shut down but at the same time I absolutely love that Mexico Food and Liquor has taken it’s place. Very keen to come back and try some of their other dishes like the ‘not to be missed’ Mexican fried chicken which we unfortunately happened to miss this time ๐Ÿ™‚
The best part is that the place is really easy to get to since it’s right next to central station, perfect since we’ll be back at uni this year only 5 minutes away!

  1. Thanks for revealing your ideas. I’d also like to convey that video games have been ever evolving. Today’s technology and improvements have made it simpler to create genuine and active games. These types of entertainment video games were not really sensible when the concept was first being used. Just like other designs of know-how, video games too have had to advance as a result of many generations. This itself is testimony for the fast development of video games.
