Devon Cafe, Surry Hills
Miss K and I were invited to Devon Cafe to check out this newly opened cafe in Surry Hills a little while back, it looked quite promising from what we saw in the media release so we decided to give it a go. We decided to visit at around brunch time on a day that we needed to get to uni since it’s just a quick 10 minute walk to UTS.The first items to arrive were our drinks which were two coffees, one of which was made specially with Five Senses coffee beans imported up from Melbourne. I really liked the taste of Five Senses and was quite impressed even though I’m usually only a drinker of Campos coffee and very few other beans.
The interiors and decor of Devon Cafe are very clean and minimalistic with a very Scandinavian (Ikea!?) look to it. I quite liked how it was very simple and clean without too much clutter on the tables. There was also a cosy little back area with a green theme where a lot of tables were located but we only caught a glimpse from the front.
Pork Belly Sandwich
Miss K was captivated by the specials board before we even walked in because it mentioned that there was a pork belly sandwich. The ones we saw in the counter looked so good with the crusty bread and juicy pork filling so Miss K decided to order this item for herself as her main meal. The bread was so perfectly crusty and the filling and sauces inside the sandwich were mouth watering, I was tempted to order a second one for myself but ended up being too full to fit anymore in!
Blue Swimmer Crab Pasta
I saw some pictures of this dish a few days earlier when I was looking at what kind of food was being served. When I saw it on the menu I knew I had to order it because it looked and smelled delicious (someone next to us ordered it), luckily the dish did not disappoint. The pasta was cooked al dente which was perfect for me and the sauce was light and flavoursome with a hint of olive oil and cherry tomatoes.
Overall impressions of Devon Cafe are quite good, I love the convenient location next to Central station and will be heading back when second semester starts especially since I’m passing by almost everyday. So far it’s the best coffee near UTS as well! The prices at Devon are very reasonable with mains being between $15-25 depending on what you order and a few items cost even less so.
