Onyx Lounge, Newtown
Located on the main dining strip of Newtown is Onyx Lounge, conveniently placed right next to Newtown station on the upper level of a building. This sleek and modern restaurant serves up great classic Modern Australian dishes with a little bit of Spanish flair.
Fondue Chorizo Cheese and Tomato
This interesting dish is basically a mini pan filled with a lot of melted cheese and other ingredients. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this if you’re on a diet but I absolutely love melted cheese so this was a winner.
Easily my pick of the night, how can you go wrong with deep fried brie? Each little crunchy morsel just oozes with deliciousness and the cranberry sauce compliments it well.
Salt and calamari is always a crowd pleaser, it’s one of those dishes that I always enjoy. I’d would have preferred the calamari to be a little more crispy but the garlic and chipotle sauce was amazing.
It’s been so long since I’ve had a topping rich pizza, traditional Italian pizzas are great but they’re light on toppings. This pizza was covered in my favourite ingredients including chorizo, guacamole and peppers.
I’m not sure why but it seems that I haven’t been to a place that’s had schnitzels in ages hence why this was ordered. Loved the mushroom sauce and the generous servings of chicken and fries.
Onyx doesn’t look like much from the street level but the upstairs space is quite large and the menu is full of crowd pleasers. There’s certainly a huge array of options in Newtown for good food but Onyx does a good job of holding it’s own in offering Modern Australian dishes in a nicely presented restaurant.
