Korean Eel & Charcoal BBQ, Lidcombe

Lidcombe seems to be home to a lot of Korean restaurants nowadays and John Street on the less frequented side of the station is home to a new family run restaurant named Korean Eel & Charcoal BBQ Restaurant.

Hae-mul pa-jeon – seafood pancake

A classic and delicious dish available at almost every Korean restaurant. It appears that this version doesn’t have shellfish which was a big bonus as that tends to be the one ingredient which puts me off.

Assorted Banchan

Egg Soup

The side dishes which come along with the meals were quite nice and plentiful. The tofu and kimchi were easily my favourites of the lot, I can never go without a few plates of delicious kimchi.

Wagyu beef, pork belly and eel

Marinated pork and eel

As the name suggests, the restaurant specialises in BBQ eel – unfortunately I’m not a big fan of eel and didn’t try any of it. The rest of the dishes on the other hand were definitely a good selection of meats. I particularly enjoyed the wagyu beef which was amazingly tender and flavoursome.

Japchae – potato noodle with beef and veges

Japchae, better known as potato noodles are yet another classic dish available at almost every Korean restaurant. The texture of the noodles is always enjoyable and the dish has very pronounced flavours.

Overall a great restaurant with a good choice of food, they’re quite busy even on a week night and I can see it becoming a local favourite as it’s one of the few places in Lidcombe that offer a full Korean BBQ.
