Burnt Orange, Mosman
Burnt Orange is a great cafe located at Mosman close to Middle Head Headland Park, the restaurant is situated in an old golf clubhouse with beautiful views of Sydney Harbour and completely surrounded by greenery. The food served here is a mix of Modern Australian dishes and general crowd pleasing cafe fare.
Bourguignon beef short rib with smokey speck, shallots, mushrooms and buttermilk potato puree
The beef short rib served with a delicious mix of vegetables and bacon was a very fulfilling and tasty dish. Short rib is always tender so I knew what to expect with my first bite and this certainly didn’t let me down, the buttermilk sauce was definitely a great choice to go with the meat.
Linguini with Western Australian blue swimmer crab, confit of cherry tomatoes, garlic & red chilli
I actually quite loved the linguini, even more so than the beef ribs above. I’ve always been a fan of either crab or prawn in linguini served wtih cherry tomato but what made this really nice was the sauce which was wonderfully sour due to the lemon used yet still savoury.
French-cut chips with rosemary salt
Pear, fig and quince crumble with vanilla bean ice cream and cinnamon custard
I have to admit when I ordered dessert I didn’t quite expect it to be quite as large was it was, luckily I had just enough stomach space left to finish it off. The ice cream on top was delicious with a strong vanilla scent and the warm dessert underneath was tasty and could almost quality as a dish on it’s own.
Berry, rose and peach Eton Mess
Since I’d never actually tried an Eton Mess before I thought this would be a good opportunity to give it a whirl and see if I enjoyed it. The mix of cream was surprisingly not overpowering and quite light on the palette whilst still being sweet as it should be for a dessert dish.
The cafe menu consists of a large number of drinks including the delicious home made lemonade and of course your usual choice of coffees and teas.
I can see why the venue got so busy during the day, with a beautiful al fresco dining space and a choice of delicious items on the menu they are constantly packed full of guests. I will definitely be back to visit if I’m ever around the are. Burnt Orange is a great location for a special meal or just a fancy one at that.
