Aperitivo in Leichardt is rated as one of the best places for authentic Neapolitan style pizza in Sydney. It’s one of the very few restaurants in Sydney licensed by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana which means they prepare their pizza according to strict rules to ensure that they are authentic.

Kingfish carpaccio with shaved fennel, orange segment & pistachio

The entrees are just as impressive as the main attractions. After seeing Kingfish carpaccio on the menu I simply couldn’t resist, Kingfish is one of my favourite types of fish because of the texture and subtle taste.

Crystal Bay prawns wrapped in pancetta served with chickpea puree & fresh thyme

Pancetta wrapped prawns sound like a match made in heaven and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The very fresh Crystal Bay prawns were very flavoursome and complimented well by the pork and puree.

Lasagna Special

Steamed broccolini served with anchovies, chilli & ricotta salata

The lasagna and broccolini both arrived at the same time and I would go as far as saying it’s one of the best pieces of lasagna I have ever had. Unfortunately it was for the kids so I had to settle with the broccolini covered in cheese which is luckily also one of my favourite sides.

Salsiccia – Homemade Sausages, Mozzarella, Taleggio, Mixed Porcini Mushroom, Truffle Oil & Radicchio

Margherita Bufala STG – Tomato, Buffalo Mozzarella, Basil

Quattro Stagioni – Tomato, Olives, Salami, Mushroom, Ham

The three pizzas we ordered were all absolutely delicious and probably the best pizzas I’ve actually had in Sydney. The Salsiccia had an amazing truffle oil drizzled over it giving it an amazing aroma and taste, the Quattro Stagioni was also delicious though more because of the variety of ingredients.

The Margherita Bufala STG was definitely my favourite of the lot and probably the most iconic style when one thinks of traditional Neapolitan pizza toppings. The crust is thin and crispy, and the buffalo cheese used is absolutely amazing. The cheese almost simply melts in your mouth.

Nougat semifreddo served on chocolate soil

We were completely stuffed by the end but I really enjoy a good semifreddo so it was hard to give this one a miss. The nougat was creamy and each mouthful mixed with the chocolate soil was a heavenly.

Although Aperitivo isn’t exactly a budget option, the dishes are not bank breaking. If you haven’t had the chance to try a traditional Neapolitan pizza I would highly recommend visiting just to give the Margherita Bufala STG a go, it’s completely worth it and possibly even life changing if you love your pizzas.
