The Tall Lemongrass, Crows Nest
Last weekend I visited The Tall Lemongrass to check out some of their unique dishes on offer. This local Thai restaurant has been around for a long while now and seems to be very popular with the locals.
Aubergine Stack – chicken, prawn, onion, mint, coriander, chilli, lime juice, fish sauce
I loved the presentation of the stack where they literally made a tasty stack of eggplant and meat. The prawns on top tasted very fresh and the seasoned minced chicken paired perfectly with the eggplant.
Mien Khumm – radish, peanut, prawn, galangal, lime, ginger, red onion, egg net, betel leaf
I thought this one was a little bit difficult to eat because of the way it’s served but it was certainly an interesting starter. I would have preferred a less sour sauce to go with it but overall, an enjoyable dish.
Larb Ped – duck, crushed rice, mint, coriander, chilli, chicory witloof
This reminded me of san choy bau but because it’s actually larb there was a distinct taste of crushed toasted rice, mint and citrus juice. The duck itself was very flavoursome and tender, I could eat these all day long.
Panang Ossa Bocco – coconut cream, fish sauce
I’ve always loved panang curry, it’s one of the creamiest and tastiest of the Thai curries available. I thought it was interesting that they used ossa bocco as the meat base which are tender pieces of veal on the bone.
Crispy Pork Belly with Caramel Sauce
Although I’m supposed to be attempting to lose weight the pork belly with caramel sauce was too good to pass down. The pork itself is crispy and the caramel sauce with hints of chilli turned out really nice.
Overall The Tall Lemongrass is certainly a great local Thai restaurant with great interiors and good service. The best part about it is that the dishes have a unique flair to them but they also offer the classic Thai dishes that everyone loves and expects including the always popular Pad Thai.
