Pitt St Diner, Redfern

Pitt St Diner is a great little restaurant that doubles as a cafe during the day. The food served is an interesting mix of different cuisines which can loosely be defined as Modern Australian, a lot of the dishes on offer were quite tempting to order which made it a difficult choice when I visited earlier this month.

Roast whole Camembert, rosemary, grilled bread, mesclun

I simply could not resist a plate of melted cheese, what sane person could do that anyway? The camembert was amazingly good and melted cheese with grilled bread was always going to be a winner.

Pork & Pistachio Pate with aged balsamic onion jam, baguette

Although the pork and pistachio was a little bit dry I thought it was a nice starter overall. The onion and pickles were a great choice of side, it would have been perfect if the pate was more spreadable.

Braised Lamb shank with garlic sauce & greens

I wasn’t the one to order the lamb shank and I had mixed feelings about it, although the greens and garlic sauce were great I was never really a fan of lamb to begin with and it’s not something I would order.

Steak – Frites, rib eye, chimmichurri, jus & mustard with fries

Luckily for me, the steak was my order for the night and was definitely my preferred main. The juicy chunk of rib eye steak served with my favourite  side of chimmichurri and chilli salsa is very hard to beat.

Broccolini & beans sautéed with butter & hazelnut

Rosemary & garlic roast potato

There are a good choice of different side dishes available at Pitt St Diner and I had great difficult picking between them. In the end I decided to forgo the duck fat fries and got these delicious sides instead.

Vanilla crème brulee, whiskey flambéed pear, walnuts

I have to say that the creme brulee was probably my favourite dish of the night, it was absolutely tasty and not overpoweringly sweet. I also really loved the side of pears and walnuts.

Overall we had a nice and very filling meal at Pitt St Diner with great food and great service. I’d love to come back and check out the breakfast and lunch menus as they looked quite different from the dinner menu!
