Jamies Italian, Wynyard

A few weeks ago we walked past Wynyard (to get to Capital Grill actually) and saw a massive line coming out of some place that was newly opened on Pitt street. Miss K was excited seeing the guy at the front making pasta  😀 I made a note to come back here cause it was Jamie Olivers first Italian restaurant in Sydney.

In the end we ended up coming here for dinner as our first date for the year and it was well worth it. I would consider it to be one of the cheaper Italian restaurants with mains under $25 that comes with a great buzzing atmosphere 🙂

Pretty big restaurant inside! (we got an awesome table)

So I believe this used to be Industry Bar or something but it must have failed cause it’s not Industry Bar anymore 😛 It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and the interior is decorated fairly nice with lots of food hanging off the walls and some cookbooks from Jamie Oliver and others.

Rosemary Focaccia, Artisan Sourdough, Ciabatta & Tortano

Seeing as I checked out the menu before coming here I knew what to order so went straight for the entrees and drinks, first up was bread with Italian Olive Oil, I noticed on the bottle that it was imported from Italy! It also had something at the bottom which I was yet to identify but tasted pretty good.

Strawberry and Elderflower Cordial

Normally we would have ordered a bottle of Chinotto or something similar but this time I saw something unique on the menu ‘Bottle-green Soda Cordial’ and I decided to try it out, turned out to be a very refreshing drink that wasn’t too sweet or too plain, wouldn’t mind trying all the flavors 😀

Mushroom Fritti with Garlic Aioli

This was probably the best dish here, but too bad it was only an entree size 🙁 It’s basically deep fried juicy and crunchy mushrooms with garlic sauce. Words can’t describe how good it was but I can tell you I can eat this stuff for the rest of my life.

Risotto Milanese (saffron, herb roasted bone marrow and lemon)

This was a very unique dish, never seen it at an Italian place before but since we were trying to go for the authentic Italian dishes we decided to try it out (heard a lot of good things about it). Turns out to be a very nice tasting dish with strong flavours. The rice could be a bit overpowering at times with so much saffron and lemon but the dish was overall very good.

Mushroom Panzerotti (mushroom pasta with mushroom inside and mushroom sauce!)

This dish was just plain awesome, loaded with our favorite ingredient 😀 Tasted very nice and wasn’t oily like most other pastas, the ravioli was very fresh as it was made at the restaurant and tasted much nicer than pretty much every Italian place I’ve been in Sydney.

Monachelle Puttanesca (spicy stuff right there)

This was a very Mediterranean tasting dish, lots of chilli and olive etc Though the dish came together very nice and wasn’t too mild, the chilli was actually strong but ended up making it taste nicer. This dish highlighted how nice the pasta tasted (there was lots of it). Cherry tomatoes were juicy and I couldn’t stop eating them xD The servings were fairly generous and on par with every other place.

Miss K loved it here so we definitely will be coming back for round two some time in the near future!
