Essen, Ultimo

Who would have thought a small joint in Ultimo is in fact a delicious German restaurant! Fortunately Mr C and I will be living just across from Essen next year, so this will possibly be our local dining spot. 🙂

The thumbnail is Crispy Pork Belly with Sauerkraut. I’ve forbidden Mr C from ordering this fatty dish, especially since he apparently eats pork every night. Being the good girlfriend however, I let him this time. Besides the fatty part (Which is suppose to be the best part), the pork tastes quite better than the Chinese ones. It also goes quite well with the sauerkraut (as I call it, German kimchi :))

As the girl, this was my main of the night. Appearance may not compare to Lowenbrau but I honestly think this schnitzel beats them! What made me happier was the amount of mushroom sauce they gave me !!! Wasn’t enough to spread across for TWO pieces of LARGE chicken schnitzel. I loved it, it was not overcooked, tender and wasn’t over saturated with the flour.

Even though I was bloated after that meal, I still want to go back again! I love mashed potatoes, but the mashed-chips (hash browns?) is simply the best ! Tastes a bit mashed but has a chip flavor to it, you’ll have to try it yourself to understand what the hell I’m describing. Loved the little burnt bits too, perfect combination with the mushroom sauce.

Our entree which was enough to fill me up already before the mains arrived. 😛 It made me realise that I had a similar dish in Jamie’s Italian, though smaller, but just as tasty as Jamie’s! I was only up to my second mushroom when Mr C was already taking the last piece 🙁 On the bright side that proves the entree was tasty right?
