The Winery, Surry Hills
Mr C and I had a quiet weekend (for once) so we decided to visit Darlinghurst for brunch and check out The Winery which we saw was getting a lot of good reviews! I loved it so much I wish I was there now 🙂
Roasted mushrooms, hand pounded pesto, pine nuts, ricotta and roasted garlic.
This dish was seriously delicious and juicy! Can you believe how amazing mushrooms are when stuffed with yummy cheese and fillings? Stuffed mushrooms with pesto as an ingredient was something new and of course, it didn’t disappoint ! Nor Mr C. The mushrooms were quite big in size, about 2-3 times bigger than the normal small button mushrooms you’ll find in Woolies/Coles. If only the stuffed mushrooms were the mega size portobello mushrooms! 😀

Crab & zesty lemon mayo toastie

This is one of The Winery’s popular dishes, only available at lunch time. It’s definitely something new to us, because there was crab meat, on toast! I was very surprised how fresh the crab was, not too tough and has a nice seafood taste to it. Plus with the avocado and the toastie was a perfect combination! This dish will have you full by about your 5th bite, at least to me it was 😛 I loved the mayo too, it wasn’t the typical sourish mayo in your sandwiches, but something quite different, which went really well with the chips hehe. I would definitely order this again, crab toastie is really something new and different, and great value for money!

Broccolini, almonds, chilli butter

It was either chips or this broccolini which we had never heard of as a side. We decided to go with a healthy vegetable as we were in need of eating healthy and nutritious food (surprise surprise). I really really loved the broccolini in the end, the almonds and chilli really made the dish an explosion of flavours (couldn’t find the word and asked Mr C for help :P) Definitely order this if you need a healthy dish to make up for the chips 😀

This was actually our view from our table, so quite interesting indeed.

I also really liked the scenery and decor, when you first walk into the Winery it feels so vintage and ‘magical’? 🙂 The interior is very polished and modern, but taking one step outside takes you into a beautiful vintage garden with gnomes and flowers everywhere! Definitely coming back very soon to try the other dishes!
