Three Williams, Redfern
Last weekend we finally got to try out the famous Three Williams cafe in Redfern and see what all the hype was about. I’ve learnt from past experiences that when a cafe like this gets so much attention the food is generally really good, but the crowds are abysmal – arriving at the warehouse-esque hip cafe to see a huge line proved me correct 🙂 Fortunately the wait was about 20 minutes before we were seated.
This was actually our first cafe visit since returning from Europe and we were craving some good old eggs so I decided to order the Poached eggs with bull horn peppers, serrano ham, feta and jalapeno (above). I’d spotted some photos of this dish before on instagram and it looked really nice so I took the plunge. Luckily for me it turned out to be amazing, I loved the spice in the dish which is not something I’m used to.
Three Williams is famous for their ‘narnies’ which are basically sandwiches made out of Indian naan bread, it doesn’t quite seem like the typical naan bread I’ve had at Indian restaurants but they do taste great! There is a mix of different types which all looked amazing but I decided to go with the beef brisket as I had a craving for something saucy and chipotle mayo is a favourite of mine.
After we ordered our food I took a quick glance around and noticed that the servings were bigger than I thought, logic would dictate that I wouldn’t order anything else right? Unfortunately we spotted the beer battered chips with a passing waiter and without hesitation they were added to our order 😀 Definitely worth it because we both love garlic aioli, the chips were also crispy and perfectly fried!
Miss K and I both had a coffee each, mine was a cappuccino and although I’m not a coffee connoisseur I definitely enjoyed the coffee they serve here, Miss K enjoyed hers so much she wanted to order a second. The texture was smooth and didn’t have a bitter or burnt taste to it which is how I prefer my coffee.
I personally really enjoyed Three Williams and hope that more of these trendy cafes pop up around Sydney, perhaps one day we’ll have a more well known cafe scene than Melbourne 😉
