When we received an invitation from Wasamedia to dine at Bowery Lane a few weeks earlier I immediately checked out the menu and got a little excited because I feel like we don’t have enough North American based eateries around, Bowery Lane takes inspiration from Manhattan, NY. The fact that this was a HUGE feast does not help dispel the good old American stereotype 😉

House Smoked Hickory Salmon – puffed wild rice, bottarga salad, burnet

I actually really enjoyed the smoked salmon more than I expected. Each exquisite little morsel of salmon had a slight smoky taste to it and a really smooth texture, also helps that it was very tasty.

Green Power Juice – spinach, kale, apple, pineapple, mint

Milkshakes – Hershey’s Cookies & Cream + Reece’s Peanut Butter Cup

The drinks menu has some interesting choices, Miss K having recently done her juice cleanse was curious about the Green Power Juice and ordered it for herself (I’m sceptical but she says it was good). I ordered the Hershey’s Cookies & Cream Milkshake which I thought was nice but could have been better if it was chilled slightly before serving. The Peanut Butter Cup Milkshake was ordered by Alex @ For Foods Sake.

Char Grilled Lamb Ribs – chimmi churri, rocket

Although neither of us are fans of lamb (Miss K doesn’t eat it at all) I still tried the lamb ribs because I can never say no to meat. The chimmi churri was very fragrant, I really love chimmi churri and it helped to overpower the lamb – good for me but maybe not for others who enjoy lamb!

Rare Tuna Sliders – guacamole, pickled cucumber

When Miss K saw these land on the table I knew that this would be a winning dish, turns out I was right especially because we’re both big fans of guacamole, tuna and pickles. The flavourful tuna chunks were quite large and served cold but with a charred outer edge.

Yamba Prawn Sliders – iceberg lettuce, fennel slaw

Unfortunately we didn’t get to try any of the prawn sliders because there just wasn’t enough to go around to everyone, they looked and smelled pretty delicious though!

Jamon Serrano – buffalo mozzarella, rocket, shaved pear

Another winning dish, when we were in Barcelona Miss K and probably ate a kilogram of jamon between the two of us in the space of a few days. Interesting fact for those that don’t know, Jamon Iberico and Jamon Serrano are made from two different types of pigs. Jamon Iberico is much more expensive in most cases but personally I think the price difference isn’t worth it because Jamon Serrano is quite good!

Manchego Croquettes – smoked chilli aioli

These croquettes were amazing with the chilli aioli and lemon juice. Manchego cheese is made from sheeps milk, a little odd for those that aren’t used to it but Miss K and I enjoy it. The cheese has a very mute taste but a really nice texture I feel is similar to buffalo mozzarella.

Master Kobe Wagyu – inside skirt chermula, lemon

This was definitely one of my favourite dishes of the night,  I’m a huge fan of wagyu and inside skirt is one of the best cuts in my opinion. At this point I was pretty impressed with the variety and quality of ingredients served at Bowery Lane which all seem to be prepared quite well.

Baby Cos – peas, beans, mint

The food was so overwhelming that we didn’t actually get to eat a single bite of this but it looks nice!

Whole BBQ Organic Chicken – lentils, grains, smoked yoghurt

This chicken dish meant for sharing is actually a lot larger than it looks, it could probably feed two people quite easily. I love the presentation of the plate, tasty pieces of barbecued chicken piled on top of lentils and grains mixed in yoghurt. The chicken was delicious and the sides were actually really nice and a little different from the norm, it gives it a bit of a farmyard feel.

1kg Braised Wagyu Short Rib – horseradish cream, roasted garlic

So apparently roasted garlic was literally a piece of roasted garlic, I actually really love the share plates at Bowery Lane because of the interesting use of ingredients. The food, including the wagyu short rib is delicious and the servings are quite generous – we were struggling to finish the share plates!

Pork Belly & Scratchings – apple, parsley & fennel salad, spiced pear chutney

Miss K considers this her favourite dish of the night because it was so flavoursome. I have to admit the pork belly was very tender, but I found most of the flavour came from the interesting broth it sits in which I can’t easily describe but tasted quite nice.

Tempura Soft Shell Crab Burger – asian slaw, miso mayo

After the onslaught of share plates we were able to order mains, everyone looked pretty full already but as food bloggers I don’t think anyone would complain 😉 Miss K took a bite of the soft shell crab and she said it was really good. I had originally ordered a small steak to share but ended up taking it away with me as we needed to leave, the feast went for more than three hours I believe!

Overall myself and others were quite impressed with the pricing and servings of Bowery Lane. Definitely would come back here as it’s a great eatery and a good restaurant for groups. We might have a made a bit of a spectacle as the whole table of bloggers stood up for photos of food every few minutes 😉

  1. Tried this place on the weekend after I scored parole from Goulburn correctional facility. he food was fresher than a 3AM Kebab after a night out at Periff Panfers.
