Hayes St Wharf Bistro, Neutral Bay

Hayes St Wharf Bistro is a small neighborhood restaurant located in Neutral Bay, just right by the ferry wharf. The restaurant serves up delicious French inspired cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, it seems to be quite a popular venue with the locals.

Garlic prawns

Unfortunately I somehow managed to forget to snap a photo of the menu so I’ll have to make do with a placeholder. The garlic prawns were quite tender and served a aromatic and flavourful buttery sauce.

Seared bug tails with celeriac remoulade and avocado

The bug tails were definitely my favourite entree for the evening, they’re deliciously tender and plated with a generous serving of avocado and celery based condiments on the side.

Steak with mushroom sauce

Shiro Kin full blood wagyu skirt, glazed baby vegetables, truffle vinaigrette

I have to give huge credits to the chef for these two steaks, the meat was cooked absolutely perfectly and just so beautifully presented. The dishes were both mouth wateringly good and just looking at the photos makes me want to visit, I would have to say these were some of the best steaks that I’ve had all year.

Green vegetables, toasted almonds

And of course the mains came with a nice serving of delicious greens and crunchy toasted almonds.

Chocolate fondant with hazelnut and raspberry sorbet

Caramelised pear tart tatin with burnt caramel ice cream

Out of the two desserts I would have to say that the pear tart was my favourite simply because of the burnt caramel ice cream. The dish is served piping hot (no seriously, it’s really hot!) and the ice cream melts fast but the contrast of hot and cold just goes so well with the pear tart.

Overall I would have to say that the restaurant does quite well for itself, the evening we visited was quite busy but the single waiter on duty did a great job and there were no issues with service.

Hayes St Wharf Bistro is a cosy little restaurant with some really good food, definitely a great venue for a date or a quiet dinner where you can actually hear each other talk.
