The Angry Pirate, Redfern

The Angry Pirate is a small but popular bar located in Redfern, the bar serves up an impressive array of various drinks alongside delicious pizzas. I had the pleasure of visiting on a weekend for a lunch session.
Rover – tomatoes, mozzarella, shaved parmesan and rocket
The pizzas are the only food items on the menu but that’s certainly not a problem for me, I could happily eat these pizzas all day long. The first to arrive was a simple pizza prepared with tomato, cheese and rocket, I was famished so I ended up devouring a few slices.
The red beard was an interesting variation and probably my favourite. The abundance of cheese and pesto was hard to beat but the best part was definitely the addition of a spicy chilli oil to drizzle over the top.

Cour Valant – Pancetta and porcini mushrooms, tomatoes, mozarella and truffle oil
Any pizza that includes both mushrooms and truffle oil is one that I could simply never turn down. I’d order this pizza simply because the taste and aroma is to die for.
The pizzas at The Angry Pirate come in tow variations, the normal pizzas and the Leviathan 18″ pizzas such as the above. These are huge and come with about 12 slices each versus the normal 8.
I rarely have dessert pizzas as I’m not a big fan of sweets in general, I would rather have more of the delicious savoury items but in this case I was quite impressed by the crispy nutella and coconut pizza.

Grog Zombie
I normally don’t write much about drinks as I prefer to focus on the food at most venues but I think it would be totally unfair to skip over the abundance (no seriously, huge abundance) of drinks that The Angry Pirate serves up. There are a number of really inventive and delicious cocktails but my favourite would have to be the refreshing Fresh Mint Papple which was quite nice on the palette and also the Lychee Woo.
Just keep in mind that while The Angry Pirate isn’t usually open during lunch the venue is quite a popular watering hole after dark, the bar is also open quite late and not subject to lockout rules. The combination of great drinks, interesting interior and delicious pizzas proves hard to pass up.
