The Potting Shed, Alexandria
The Potting Shed is a restaurant located at The Grounds of Alexandria and a part of the wider complex. The very popular venue is open day and night and nowadays is more popular than the original cafe, quite likely because of it’s beautiful hanging plants inspired by the garden of eden and amazing menu.
Thanks to Bindaree Beef I had the pleasure of visiting The Potting Shed who stock beef from the company.
Buttermilk fried chicken wings w/ korean chilli paste, pickles
The buttermilk fried chicken wings were as tasty as expected from fried chicken, generally fried chicken is quite hard to mess up. I also loved the accompanying side of radishes which made it a more balanced dish.
Chilli salt squid, coriander, lime
The chilli salt squid was another great start to the meal. I’ve had my share of soggy fried squid but luckily these were quite crispy and served with some lime (much better than lemon) and a delicious spicy mayo.
Kurobuta pork belly sliders w/ cucumber, kimchi, soy mayo, charcoal buns
This one came as a surprise to me but I actually quite enjoyed the pork belly sliders, the cucumber balances out the delicious fatty slices of pork belly and spicy kimchi. I also found that the charcoal buns tasted much nicer than expected despite the ominous black colouring.
Shellfish linguine, clams, mussels, crab, herbs, lemon
As you’re all aware I’m generally not a fan of shellfish at all but those that tried them quite liked it. I personally enjoyed the pasta which was served al dente and with a hint of zesty lemon and chilli.
300g Sirloin steak w/ baby green beans and cafe de paris butter
The 300gram Sirloin steak from Inverell, NSW is supplied by Bindaree Beef. The beef was tender, full of flavour and served with a generous amount of green beans smothered in a delicious butter. Coincidentally, Bindaree Beef is stocked and available at The Australian Meat Emporium just around the corner.
Housemade sodas – lemon lime bitters, eucalyptus, citrus
The Grounds of Alexandria offers a lot of different types of drinks in their garden stands and at the cafe. They’re generally quite nice with interesting twists, I personally loved the eucalyptus soda.
Oh how I love Fluffy the macaw, he is just so awesome and one of the best parts of visiting The Potting Shed.
As you can see from the abundance of photos, the venue itself is just amazing. I personally enjoy it more in the evening as the whole space is lit throughout with lamps to give it a cosy rustic feel. The restaurant is quite busy so make sure you book ahead to guarantee a seat without too much of a wait time.
