Manjits @ The Wharf is an upscale Indian restaurant located right by the water at King Street Wharf. This venue is an offshoot of the original venue located out at Balmain which has been operating and bringing great Indian food to the Sydney dining scene for over 30 years. Just late last week I had the pleasure of visiting and checking out the new venue at King Street Wharf.

Fish Malai – marinated fish fillets roasted and served w/ four chutneys

The fish malai was easily my favourite dish out of all the entrees (we went very heavy on the entrees). The fish they use is John Dory and it’s served absolutely tender and covered in delicious spices.

The entrees continued to flow quite quickly and it quickly became apparent that the best part of all this food was the variety of spices and flavours used. I love Gol Gol Gappa having had it before out in Harris Park (ChatKazz), they’re delicious little bite sized pieces of pastry filled with a mint sauce.

I always love scallop dishes and I find one of the most interesting parts is seeing how different cultures can change the dish so dramatically simply by using different spices. I wasn’t as much a fan of the crab uttapam but would happily go for a second serving of the scallops served with 17 different dipping spices!

If I had to pick a second favourite dish the lamb cutlets would definitely be it. I normally don’t like lamb in any form but it’s hard to say no when they’re marinated in this heavenly mixture of spices and sauces.

The stuffed mushroom dish was also quite nice and quite different seeing as the cheese is cottage cheese rather than a more western style melt. The corn and chestnut also made for a dramatically different texture.

The start of the mains was heralded by this very theatrical smoked eggplant dish. When the lid is lifted off, an amazing aroma of herbs, spices and smoke wafts over the whole dining area.

I specifically requested this curry as I absolutely love to order balmain bugs whenever I get the chance. I was very curious to see how it would turn out in an Indian coconut based curry and I was definitely not let down.

The mains were served with a heap of delicious carbs, unfortunately we couldn’t finish all of this in one sitting but I really wish I had the stomach capacity to actually do so 🙁

Desserts were a struggle but I really couldn’t turn down one of the most popular ice cream dishes in India. I love mango and pistachio so this was a heavenly combination and a great way to finish off the meal.

Manjits also has a great selection of Bollywood cocktails and drinks selection. I went for two of the Indian Summer cocktails, very refreshing and I loved the chilled vodka and strawberry base.

As you can see the venue is quite large and has a beautiful view of Darling Harbour, the sun can be a little blinding while it still sets but once it passes behind the buildings the blinds are lifted up and the panaromic view is a nice little treat for all the tables situated near the window.
