Alpha is the only chef hatted Greek restaurant remaining in Sydney after the recent closure of Xanthi and for good reason, the food and service is top notch and I would easily rate this as one of the best if not the best Greek to be had in Sydney. I visited just a few weeks ago to check out their lunch menu.
Barrel Aged Fetta Tou Fourno – Chilli, Roasted Garlic, Oregano
When I ordered this dish I was already excited for what sounded like an amazing fetta to go with the pita bread. When it arrived it blew me away, the baked fetta with chilli, garlic and oregano is simply divine.
Spanakopita – Spinach Pie, Leeks, Fetta, Dill
When ordering this I had no idea how large it would be, this with a side would probably be enough to feed two people. We were struggling to down the dish but it was good, the flaky pastry was the best part.
Moussaka of Eggplant – Seared Scallops, Taramosalata
I love moussaka so I decided to order this after hearing a few good things. Unfortunately this didn’t quite live up to my expectations of a traditional moussaka and I personally didn’t enjoy the taramosalata.
Spit Roasted Organic Chicken – Tzatziki, Lemon
I still have fond memories of Greek spit roasted meats, they’re just simply so succulent and flavoursome. The chicken was an amazing serve of tender chicken and lovely tzatziki on the side.
Chocolate Hazelnut Baklava – Honey Syrup, Sour Cherry Ice Cream
I love baklava with a passion, you can never go wrong with the sticky little morsels of goodness. I’m not sure if I prefer this chocolate hazelnut variation or the original, both are extremely delicious.
I can’t write about the restaurant and not mention that the venue for Alpha is absolutely amazing. It’s sleek, clean and welcoming but retains a nice casual buzz. I’d love to visit again for a small group meal!
