Abode Bistro at the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour in Sydney is a fancy little restaurant which recently underwent a refurbishment, the interiors are beautiful and the food can be described as Modern Australian. I had the pleasure of visiting to check out the a la carte menu for dinner on a recent Thursday night.
Slow cooked pork belly with seared scallops, caramelised onion puree and pickled apple
I always love a place that does really good entrees and I have to admit that this course was probably my favourite parts of the meal at Abode Bistro. The pork belly with perfectly prepared seared scallops just can’t be beat. The pork and scallop were both tender and full of flavour.
Citrus cured salmon, edamame two ways, shaved radish, red cabbage and citrus dressing
Salt baked celeriac, sweet and sour dressing, crushed hazelnuts and house-made ricotta
The citrus cured salmon is always a favourite, as expected I loved the taste and texture of salmon but the citrus dressing tops the dish off. The celeriac on the other hand was an interesting (but definitely delicious!) departure from the norm, I find it similar to daikon radish cakes but with a more starchy texture.
Pumpkin and coconut cream soup, roasted coconut, pumpkin, pumpkin seeds
The pumpkin soup with coconut cream looked and smelled absolutely wonderful, I love coconut and pumpkin so the combination was quite intriguing. It’s a great option for those who aren’t too hungry and are just looking for a light dinner to finish of the evening, it’s also served with bread on the side.
Riverina grass fed Rib Eye 350g with mushroom sauce
Garlic potato mash
The grass fed rib eye was a flavoursome thick cut of meat served with my favourite broccolini and creamy mushroom sauce, you can never really go wrong with a tender medium rare steak on a rainy Thursday evening. I also really enjoyed the garlic potato mash on the side.
Rhubarb four ways – poached, powder, gel, sorbet with sable crumble
After all the dishes above we could hardly fit any more food in our stomachs but the waiter recommended the Rhubarb prepared four ways to finish off the evening. I wouldn’t rate it as a mind blowing experience but it was definitely unique and I enjoyed the sorbet variation most.
Abode Bistro are offering a special degustation menu (Fromage to You) only available for Good Food Month in October, you can check out the menus they have available on their website. I also saw that there was a high tea option available on weekends and great live music on Thursday and Friday evenings!
