Bungalow 8 is a bar and restaurant located right by the water at King Street Wharf. The venue has been around for quite a while now and gets extremely popular on both Fridays and weekends, the well stocked bar also serves up an extensive menu of pub grub in a bistro format.
Chicken wings – sesame, smoky bbq
The chicken wings turned out to be a much larger serving than I expected which was a pleasant surprise, the very tender and flavoursome chicken wings are also smothered in a delicious sticky bbq sauce.
Chilli salt squid – lime mayo
One can never go wrong with some very crispy salted squid with a hint of chilli and delicious lime mayo.
Beetroot cured salmon – wasabi creme fraiche, tobiko, coriander
The beetroot cured salmon was definitely my favourite entree, the salmon is salty but has a distinct taste of beetroot (as expected) which balanced extremely well with the creme fraiche and dash of lime juice.
Prawn cocktail – spicy thousand island, avocado, cucumber
The prawn cocktails were lacking in the prawn department but was quite a nice dish in general, I love a good salad dish based on fennel so that was definitely a great way to start off the meal.
Grilled sirloin – 250gm, rustic chips, red wine jus, garlic prawns, bearnaise
I went for the grilled sirloin and replaced the chips with a salad instead, the steak itself was great and the cut of meat was definitely of good quality. The prawns covered in bearnaise sauce simply perfected the dish.
Teriyaki salmon – oyster mushrooms, sushi rice, wasabi roe
Crispy skin barramundi – prosciutto crisps, asian greens, spring onion mash
The seafood dishes were not ones that I tried personally but a trusted fellow foodie vouches that they were very good, and I have to admit that they looked really nice from a plating perspective.
South sea sipper – pinot grigio, Gordon’s gin, passionfruit, lemon squash
Bungalow 8 has an extensive drinks menu and the jugs of cocktails are a great way to get the drinks flowing. The South sea sipper was a tasty and refreshing drink which we all enjoyed of to go for a second round.
I’m not one to normally dine around King Street Wharf as I tend to avoid the more crowded venues but I could definitely see myself visiting Bungalow 8 for large group events. The bistro makes it easy to separate costs and the food is quite good in comparison to other similar venues. The venue itself is great for a nice view of the water while you dine, perfect for summers and also heated in winter.
