Scarlett, The Rocks
Scarlett restaurant is a cosy Modern Australian restaurant located at The Rocks and tucked away within The Harbour Rocks Hotel. The hotel building itself, including the restaurant venue is simply a beautiful space to be dining in, the historic interiors are quaint, warm and welcoming.
Seared scallops – cauliflower, raisin, caper vinaigrette, crispy prosciutto
For weeks I had been craving scallops so this was the perfect opportunity to get that craving out of my system with a generous serving of delicious seared scallops wrapped in crispy prosciutto.
Fig salad – golden beetroot, aged balsamic, walnut
I usually don’t quite like figs in general but I would have to make an exception for these. The fig here is glazed with melted sugar, served with delicious golden beetroot, goats cheese and a tangy balsamic sauce.
Braised beef cheek – jerusalem artichoke, truffle butter
The beef cheek was another delicious entree to start off the meal. The meat itself was very tender and the accompanying truffle butter and jerusalem artichoke were great additions on the side.
Miso glazed salmon – eggplant, chilli prawns, sesame crumb
Pan fried barramundi fillet – watercress veloute, seared scallops, avruga
I deviated from the norm for this meal and went for two seafood dishes, this is not something I would normally go with but they both sounded so good on the menu. Props to the kitchen for both dishes as they were easily the two best seafood dishes I’ve had in quite a long time.
The miso glazed salmon had a perfect balance of sweet and savoury while the barramundi on the other hand was served perfectly crispy on the outside with an amazingly tender interior.
Banana creme brulee – peanut brittle ice cream
The creme brulee was an interesting dessert, the banana taste is quite apparent and the dessert itself is very sweet so it was a little heavy. Fortunately, the ice cream was easily my favourite part of the dish, very refreshing and subtle so as to not overpower the tastebuds.
I’m surprised that the venue wasn’t more busy than it was, we were there on a Thursday and only a few tables were occupied when we left during the dinner peak. The restaurant is definitely like a hidden gem, the entrance is located through the hotel lobby so it’s not exactly apparent to passersby.
