Bourke Street Bakery, Surry Hills

Mr C and I have been wanting to visit the infamous Bourke Street Bakery for a long time, but I’ve always put it off as I heard it was located pretty far from Central. After a very long time we finally we made it! In fact it was so good we even took the time to visit the Marrickville store a few days later store for more pastries 🙂

The not-so-long-queue

I expected a pretty long line but surprisingly it wasn’t! We were either lucky or my definition of ‘long queue’ must be very long because of all the popular places we’ve been to…

Eggplant, Spinach, Chick Pea & Feta Sausage Roll

I loved the pastry of the sausage roll. I love the flavour of the small burnt on the pastry, it was crispy and melts in your mouth! The goodness inside was so delicious, I’ve never had a sausage roll with eggplant and feta before. A great combination along with the spinach and chick peas!!! I didn’t use much tomato sauce (which I normally do), because there was enough flavour to it already. 🙂

Beef Brisket, Red Wine & Mushroom Pie

Pretty self explanatory as to why we chose this pie. IT HAD MUSHROOMS! Look how beautiful the pie is with the little burnt pastry part! The beef was juicy and chunky and you can really smell the wine. I’m quite glad that my face didn’t turn red. (I suck at alcohol). I was really happy that the pie didn’t break apart and wasn’t dripping everywhere  as we took bites from it. I would definitely order this again!

Ginger Brulee Tart

This was a MUST, ever since I tried the Creme Brulee from Black Star Pastry. It left a really good impression on me, hence I HAD to order this. And it didn’t disappoint! I really loved the toffee on top! The ginger tart itself was so mouthwatering, and the bottom golden pastry was just perfect. This ginger brulee tart was delicious and is now my favourite creme brulee along with BSP.

Lemon Curd Tart

This little tart was cute. The first bite was really yummy but as you get towards the middle, the lemon is a bit too strong and sour. It was really good to kill our bloated stomachs because it makes you want to eat again (Some myth my mum always tells me about :P)
Since we’ve had our first taster of Bourke Street Bakery, we’re now thoroughly hooked and will probably visit much more often for our pastry fix!
